Las Guirnaldas de Copos de Nieve para Navidad hechas en hilo fino vienen siendo tradición en mi blog cada año y éste no iba a ser menos. Precursora de las fiestas que están a punto de llegar, os presento la primera guirnalda que he terminado... pero habrá más y muy diferentes entre sí, ¡ya lo iréis viendo!
I'm answering some crochet garland requests this season, all very different from each other as to color combinations and shapes. It seems that they have become trend last years and I'm glad to see how everything comes back again. Does it mean that the humble tinsel will also return again in any eventual future? Well, I think it's okay in its place in the trunk of memories for the moment 😉
Este año estoy atendiendo varias peticiones de guirnaldas de ganchillo, todas muy diferentes entre sí en cuanto a combinación de colores y formas. Parece que se están convirtiendo en la tendencia de los últimos años y me encanta comprobar como todo vuelve. ¿Significa eso que también volverá el sufrido espumillón en algún eventual futuro? Bueno, creo que está muy bien en su lugar del baúl de los recuerdos por el momento 😉
The garland that I'm showing you here is the most traditional of all, made in white lace cotton thread as always.
La guirnalda que os estoy mostrando aquí hoy es la más tradicional de todas, blanca y hecha en hilo de algodón fino de toda la vida.
Measure: 10 cm diameter aprox / 4" diameter aprox
Material: Mercerized 100% cotton thread Anchor Freccia nr 8
Hook: 1.25mm

I have to admit that I feel a special pleasure when I make these crochet snowflakes for several reasons, and perhaps due to them I've been turning it into my every November ritual. One of those reasons is that when working with lace thread it's possible to highlight some filigree drawings that would be lost using other yarn thicknesses.
Another reason has to do with my childhood memories. In my school time and around these dates, we used to decorate the windows of our classroom with snowflake garlands made of cut paper. I loved doing that. I was the happiest girl in the world with scissors and a pile of paper, folding each sheet in successive symmetrical folds, trimming here and there at random and then unfolding it to discover how a wonderful snowflake appeared every time. You can imagine me sitting on the floor with all the material around. My classmates ran around the classroom hanging the Christmas decoration, while I kept on the floor cutting paper. I just loved the fact of seeing each snowflake appear in my hands as if by magic, always different and white.
Reconozco que siento una especial debilidad por estos copos de nieve de ganchillo por varias razones y, quizás por eso, lo he ido convirtiendo en mi ritual de cada Noviembre. Una de esas razones es que, al trabajar con hilo tan fino, se tiene la posibilidad de resaltar unos dibujos de filigrana que se perderían usando hilo de otros grosores.
Otra de las razones tiene que ver con mis recuerdos de infancia. En el colegio y por estas fechas más o menos, solíamos decorar las ventanas de nuestra clase con guirnaldas de copos de nieve hechas de papel recortado. Me encantaba hacerlas. Era la niña más feliz del mundo con tijeras y una pila de papel, doblando cada lámina en sucesivos pliegues simétricos, recortando por aquí y por allá al azar y desplegándolo después para ver aparecer cada vez un maravilloso copo de nieve. Podéis imaginarme sentada en el suelo con todo el material a mi alrededor. Mientras mis compañeros corrían por la clase colgando las guirnaldas, yo permanecía en el suelo recortando papel. Me encantaba el hecho de ir viendo aparecer los copos de nieve en mis manos, como por arte de magia, todos diferentes y blancos.
So now I've only changed the material: I make them of yarn. Yes, because these garlands are worth to decorate everything and can be made in any length so they fit well on any need: windows, on the fireplace and, if one is very, very encouraged, a whole Christmas Tree only decorated with these snowflakes, why not? 😀
Así que ahora tan sólo he cambiado de material: las hago de hilo. Sí, porque estas guirnaldas valen para decorarlo todo y la longitud es adaptable a todas las necesidades: para las ventanas, sobre la chimenea y, si uno se anima mucho, mucho, un Árbol de Navidad decorado únicamente con estos copos de nieve, ¿por qué no? 😀
The truth is that it takes almost no time to crochet these snowflakes: only 4 rounds and, without realizing, you can get a huge pile of them.
Lo cierto es que no se tarda nada en hacer los copos de nieve: tan sólo 4 vueltas y casi sin darte cuentas puedes tener una pila enorme de ellos.
...and they are so easy to do!

And now that we are on the way to winter, to this season of transition and remembrance, I wish to bring up to memory a few splash of color from last spring as a reminder that everything is cyclical and returns in due time.
Y ahora que vamos de camino al invierno, hacia ese periodo de transición y recogimiento, quiero traer a la memoria algunas pinceladas de color de la pasada primavera como recordatorio de que todo es cíclico y vuelve a su debido tiempo.
